Every day I wake up and think about taking this painting off Etsy — I love it so much and I live in temptation of keeping it to myself. Here's why: For me, the essence of botanical style is in floral paintings that are just a little unnstudied, and unrefined — not amateur, of course, but slightly rough — the overdone thing isn't happening. This is like the Platonic ideal of that style: There's something fresh and appealing real about it, but it's clear that the painter's ability was first-rate. And the tulips! For my money, the painter absolutely captures the vibe of spring tulips — that one drooping one on the right is worth the price of admission for me. And forget about the colors — they're gorgeous, with that deep gray background and the bright colors of the flowers.
Somebody better buy this ASAP because I'm basically talking myself into keeping it as I write this.
This is beautiful vintage French oil painting of tulips, in a pinkish vase. An amazing addition to a collection of vintage oil paintings or vintage botanical wall art!
It's 24" wide by 19.5" tall.
This painting on a canvas which has been nailed to a frame. It's been signed, by "C. Caillton." I was told it was painted in the 1950s or 1960s.
